Background: This year will mark the 9th annual Pickering / Kendig Memorial 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. We started this tournament in 2000 because we felt we needed to do something to remember Todd and Dan and they were both avid basketball enthusiasts. They tragically lost their lives in separate automobile accidents. They were both Covington High School graduates. They were also members of the Covington basketball team in the mid 1990s.

The tournament is unique to the area. It is the only tournament in the Region to promote certified officials at all courts/levels. It is a family atmosphere where spectators can enjoy lunch and have plenty of room to relax in the sun and socialize. We have had children as young as 7-8 years old and adults (let's just say near retirement age) participate in the many skill levels/age brackets that are offered.

The proceeds from the tournament will go towards scholarship funds in Todd and Dan's names.

Last year, there were over 50 teams who traveled from several states to participate. The scholarships were $2000 each. The tournament would not have been possible without the help of many individuals and local businesses (see the "Generous Sponsors" page for details). This year, we would like to continue to build upon the success.

The winners of the scholarships were:

2000-01 Pickering: Andy Hitt – $700
2000-01 Kendig: Andrew McCullough – $700

2001-02 Pickering: Jason Meyer and Jared Meyer – $1500
2001-03 Kendig: Lauren Boggs – $1500

2002-03 Pickering: Kyle Moore – $2500
2002-03 Kendig: Jesse Hitt and Kyle Moore – split $2500

2003-04 Pickering: Matt McCord – $2500
2003-04 Kendig: MaryBeth Bayman – $2500

2005-06 Pickering: Tyler Moore – $2000
2005-06 Kendig: Caleb Lavey – $2000

2006-07 Pickering: Drew Craft – $2000
2006-07 Kendig: Ridge Staley – $2000

2007-08 Pickering: Curtis Dysinger, Zack Gibson – $2000
2007-08 Kendig: Elena Bohlander, Ashley Diltz, Erin Christian – $2000

Tournament Information: The tournament is open to males and females of all ages. It will also include special contests, such as "three point", "free throw", and "long shot", along with a "50/50 raffle". A variety of food and drinks will be served. There will be certified officials for the top men's division and younger age divisions may also be officiated.

Note: We have added a division that is “40 and Over”. All members of the team must be 40 years old or over to compete in that division.

Concessions: There will be concessions available at the tournament; including hot dogs, hamburgers, baked goods, candy, and drinks. Proceeds go towards a good cause so please come out and enjoy the food, the sun, and the basketball action.
